Disability Insurance
Overview
If you can’t work due a non-work-related illness or injury, disability benefits replace part of your income.
You have 2 types of coverage:
How It Works
-
1
AEO pays for your coverage
AEO automatically enrolls you in Short-Term and Long-Term Disability coverage and pays 100% of the cost. AEO will automatically enroll you in a tax-free disability benefit. This means if you receive a disability payment, it will not be subject to federal, state or local taxes.

Notify your supervisor
You must notify your supervisor as soon as possible for a sudden, unplanned leave and at least 30 days before a planned leave.
-
3
You file a claim when illness or injury prevents you from working
After you notify your supervisor, contact Aflac at 844-440-1063 or mygrouplifedisability.aflac.com to start your disability claim.

Aflac reviews and pays out approved claims
Your benefit will be paid like your normal paycheck. Short-Term Disability benefits are paid weekly from Aflac. Long-Term Disability benefits are paid monthly.
Filing a Claim
Short-Term Disability
File your claim if you know you will need to be off work for more than 3 consecutive days. The first 7 days of your claim are considered a waiting period. You can use PTO to cover these days.
Long-Term Disability
If your illness or injury prevents you from working after your Short-Term Disability is exhausted, your claim will transition to Long-Term Disability. Long-Term Disability benefits continue until you are no longer disabled or you reach age 65.
